Senior Portraits St. Louis & Metro East Illinois

Document who you are right now — before everything changes.

For the Parents

Senior portrait season has a way of sneaking up on families. One minute, they’re starting junior year, and suddenly you’re realizing this is the last time you’ll have professional photographs of them before everything changes — college, careers, a life that looks nothing like the one you’ve been watching unfold.
That’s what these photographs are actually for. Not the yearbook submission. Not the Instagram post. The wall of your home, twenty years from now, where this version of them still exists exactly as they were.
MDKauffmann sessions include a same-day reveal — you see the images before you leave. You select your artwork while the day is still fresh, while you still remember the way they looked in that light. You don’t wait weeks for a gallery link and hope it was worth it.
When to book: The window fills quickly. Juniors booking for their senior year typically secure their session in spring or early summer. Seniors who wait until fall of their senior year can still book — but availability is limited, and winter light has its own particular beauty if you’re open to it.

What to Expect

A typical MDKauffmann senior session runs one to two hours depending on commission level — enough time to work through multiple locations and looks without the session feeling rushed or exhausting.
We’ll talk through everything before the session: locations that make sense, what to bring, how many outfit changes work within your commission. If your senior has something specific in mind — a sport, an instrument, a meaningful location — that’s the conversation to have early so we can build the session around it.
The style guides below are a useful starting point for wardrobe planning:

Bring two to three outfit options if you’re uncertain. We can make the call together on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should we book a senior portrait session? Juniors booking for their senior year should secure their session in spring or early summer — that gives you the most flexibility on timing, location, and light. Seniors booking during their senior year can still get on the calendar, but availability is more limited. Winter sessions, particularly with snow, can be exceptional if you’re open to that aesthetic.
How long does a senior session take? Most senior sessions run one to two hours depending on commission level. That’s enough time for multiple locations and outfit changes without the session becoming an endurance test. We work at a pace that keeps the photographs looking natural rather than tired.
Can my senior incorporate their interests — sports, instruments, hobbies? Yes — and we’d encourage it. The photographs that hold up twenty years from now are the ones that actually look like who your senior was at this moment. If there’s something meaningful to them, bring it and we’ll work it into the session.
Do you do group senior sessions — best friends, teams? Reach out and we’ll talk through what you have in mind. Small group sessions can work well depending on scope.
Studio or location — which is better for senior portraits? Both work well. Studio sessions offer clean, controlled lighting that’s versatile and timeless. Location sessions add context and personality — a meaningful place, a favorite park, an urban setting that reflects who they are. Many sessions incorporate both. We’ll work through what makes sense during the consultation.
What is same-day reveal? You view your finished images before you leave the session — not weeks later through a gallery link. You select your artwork while the day is still fresh. It’s standard on every MDKauffmann portrait commission.
How many seniors do you photograph each year? Deliberately few. MDKauffmann works with a limited number of senior clients each year so that every session gets the same unhurried, personal attention. If you’re interested, earlier is better.

This Version of Them Won’t Exist Again.

Senior year moves fast. The photographs that capture who they are right now
— before college, before careers, before the next chapter rewrites everything —
are worth making deliberately.
The consultation is free. The conversation is low pressure. And if we’re the right fit, we’ll make something worth keeping.

Booking for the current senior year is limited. If your senior is a junior, now is the right time.

Still thinking? That's what the consultation is for.

Every MDKauffmann commission starts with a conversation — not a sales pitch. We talk about your day, your priorities, and what "forever" looks like for your family. If we're the right fit, you'll know. If we're not, I'll tell you honestly.
