Most couples haven’t hired a wedding photographer before. Why would they have? So before the wedding, we talk. That’s the pre-event consult, and it does more work than people expect from a single conversation.

Here’s what actually happens on that call.

We walk your day, start to finish. Where you’re getting ready, where the ceremony is, what the reception looks like, who’s involved. Not to build a rigid schedule, since I book the whole day and work with whatever it turns into, but so I know what to expect and what matters to you specifically.

We talk about your family. Blended families, complicated dynamics, a grandparent who can’t stand long, a family member who shouldn’t end up in every photo. I’d rather know this before the day than guess in the moment.

We talk about what you actually want out of the photos. Some couples want documentary, candid, catch-it-as-it-happens. Others want more posed, more intentional. Most want some of both. This is where we figure out the ratio.

You ask whatever you haven’t asked yet. This is the point in planning where the questions that seemed too small to email about finally come out. Ask them.

What this isn’t: a sales pitch, or a chance for me to upsell you on something you didn’t come looking for. By the time we’re on this call, you’ve already booked. This conversation exists so that on your wedding day, I already know your family, your priorities, and your day, instead of learning it all in real time while I’m supposed to be photographing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the pre-event consult happen?

After you’ve already booked. It’s not a sales call, it’s how I learn your day, your family, and your priorities before the wedding itself.

What should I bring to the consult?

Any questions that felt too small to email about, plus a sense of your day’s rough shape, where you’re getting ready, the ceremony and reception locations, and who’s involved.

Will this call try to sell me additional coverage?

No. By the time we talk, you’ve already booked. This conversation is entirely about getting your day right, not about upselling anything.

Still thinking? That's what the consultation is for.

Every MDKauffmann commission starts with a conversation — not a sales pitch. We talk about your day, your priorities, and what "forever" looks like for your family. If we're the right fit, you'll know. If we're not, I'll tell you honestly.
